Using the Theory of Change (ToC) as an integral part of your programme or project is not just nice, but necessary.

If you don’t know where you are going, any road will get you there.

Theory of Change is about developing a strategic plan for your intended impact, including internal and external expertise from different disciplines, ToC mapping and time frame.

In ProjectConnect you can register a result framework as a part of your Theory of Change to describe how your programmes and projects will lead to results.
Result framework in ProjectConnect is structured, and enables you to register impacts, outcomes, outputs and activities with their indicators and budgeted amount needed to achieve your desired targets. The question is:

• What are you trying to achieve?
• How will you make that happen?
• Which specific activities, strategies and resources will you need to get there?

Whatever it may be, ProjectConnect will help you zoom in on the specific pathway and creates an organized structure to monitor the implementation.

The set-up of the Theory of Change can be predefined, to save time when creating repetitive entries. The levels of the result framework, (like impact, outcome, output and activity) are not all required. You can choose which ones are relevant for each project type. For example, if your partners are executing an implementation in your programme, they may be performing on output level, while your own organisation performs capacity strengthening targeted on outcome level.

The Theory of Change is also about innovating continuously by adapting your plans according to the changes in the external landscape, evaluating and learning what works, and finally modifying your programmes and projects.
